Cassandra Guthrie

Director appointed
at Seymour Library

The Seymour Library Board of Trustees has named a new Library Director, Cassandra Guthrie. She took over the responsibilities of director in Brockport on May 16 after a nine year tenure as community relations librarian at the White Plains Public Library in Westchester County, NY.

Guthrie has family in the Buffalo area and the position in Brockport moved her closer to them. The mix of students, professionals and families in the Brockport community reminded her of Fredonia, where she grew up while her mother was an English professor. Guthrie said, "I want to add to what is already in place here - to continue to make the library the center of the community."

While at White Plains, Guthrie implemented approximately 75 percent of all adult programming, including spring jazz series, film screenings and a variety of educational and informational events. She began an innovative outreach program to get White Plains' growing Latino population more involved with the library. "I enjoy connecting people who may not be involved with the library, to the library," she said.

Seymour Library Board President Lori Lessord said, "Cassie is a great complement to our dedicated staff and will be able to move the library forward in remaining an integral part of the community."

Guthrie, her husband and two children, will live in Clarkson.
