Fire Explorer Post 533 was recognized for 35 years of community involvement.


Spencerport Fire Department honors Explorer Post for 35 years of service

The Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Association Fire Explorer Post #533 was honored for its 35 years of service to the department and community.

At a ceremony held on May 5, Explorer Post Advisor Chris Damon, Association President Michael Read, Fire District Chief Joseph Muniz and Fire Explorer Andrew Hofer were on hand to receive an award recognizing the Explorer Post for continued education in the areas of firematics and emergency medical skills since 1972.

The Fire Explorer program is sponsored through the Boy Scouts of America and Otetiana Council of Monroe County and the City of Rochester. Students between the ages of 14-18 can volunteer for the program which meets every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to study classroom and practical skills it takes to become a firefighter. At the age of 18 they can become Spencerport Volunteer Firefighters if they choose to continue to serve their community. If any student between the ages of 14 to 18 is interested, they can contact their guidance counselor at their school or contact the fire district at www.spencerportfire.org.

The Spencerport Fire Department's mission is to prevent, extinguish and suppress all destructive fires and fire hazards in the district; to aid and assist the district's police and ambulance organizations in matters of public safety; to promote the interests and education of citizens in the district in matters of fire prevention and suppression; to promote social and community activities for the mutual enjoyment and benefit of the members of the Spencerport Volunteer Fireman's Association.
