Volunteers sought for POD

In the event of a large-scale public health emergency, such as a pandemic or epidemic affecting Monroe County, it may be necessary to administer vaccine and/or dispense medication to the entire population within as little as 48 yours. In order to make this effort manageable, communities are recruiting volunteers to staff and operate a Point of Dispensing (POD).

In most areas, schools are being selected as POD locations. In the Ogden/Spencerport area, the Spencerport High School has been designated. To achieve the goals set forth by the Monroe County Health Department, 83 volunteers are needed.

Ogden Supervisor Gay Lenhard and Spencerport Mayor Ted Walker are calling for people who have management skills, coordination, communications or medical expertise, as well as general volunteers willing to accept clerical and task responsibilities. Training is available for all volunteers.

Individuals willing to participate are encouraged to send or drop off contact information and area of interest to Lenhard's office, at the Ogden Community Center, 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport.
