New security procedures in place at BCSD

All visitors to the Brockport Central School District will sign-in at the greeter's desk, located by the main entrance at each school, as they typically do. However, they will now be required to show a valid form of picture identification. "Safety of our students, staff and community is of utmost importance," said Superintendent James C. Fallon. "We are constantly re-evaluating our security efforts to maintain a safe environment. This added security measure will help us verify visitors to our schools."

Greeters received additional training from the security director and health and safety coordinator. Greeters will now verify that each visitor has a valid reason for being in the school prior to sending them to their destination. "We realize that people visit the buildings for various reasons and not all have scheduled appointments," said Gary Rose, director of security. "These new procedures will contribute to the safety of all and help us to better track the reasons people visit the schools. Similar sign-in procedures are being used successfully in area school districts."
District-wide security measures already in place include hall monitors at the middle and high schools, security patrols (24-hours a day/seven days a week), security cameras throughout the district, and a safe school helpline (1-800-4-1-VOICE). New procedures will be piloted in June.
