Spencerport School administrator placed on leave

A Spencerport School administrator, Terry Hedges, was issued an appearance ticket on May 16, requiring to appear in Ogden Town Court on June 5 to answer to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a 13-year-old boy. The district placed Hedges, a 31-year employee, on administrative leave following the issuance of the appearance ticket.

Several weeks ago, parents of a student contacted the district and Ogden Police. At that time, district officials asked police to conduct an investigation, and, acting on advice from police, the administrator was restricted to duty at the district office building, to have no contact with students. Hedges served as director of student information services and knew the youth through the Spencerport Community Players Theater group.

In a press release, Superintendent of Schools Mary Anne Kermis stated, "Student safety and welfare is our top priority. I want parents to know that we take all concerns expressed to the district very seriously and respond immediately."
