Students from grades second to fifth participated in the Invention Club and entered their creative inventions into the Rochester Museum and Science Center's Invention Convention 2007, that was held Saturday, May 5. Eric Stein (above), second grade, invented EZ Sidewalk Chalk, a stick to hold chalk so you don't have to bend to draw and Ryan Gill (at left), second grade, invented Ryan's Rolling Recycling Bins.
Young inventors show their creations

Students from the Terry A. Taylor Elementary School in Spencerport entered the "Invention Club" in November 2006 led by second grade teacher, Anna Rivoli. This club was designed to challenge minds of young inventors to develop a new product, or already existing item that needs improving or enhancing. Monthly meetings consisted of peer discussions about past inventors and current young inventors, brainstorming of materials and mechanics for creating their own invention ideas, an age-appropriate presentation from a local patent lawyer on inventors and patent law, and student presentations of a final prototype or working model to be judged at the Invention Convention 2007 held at the Rochester Museum and Science Center.

These young inventors displayed their invention models at the regional judging event at the RMSC on Saturday, May 5. Rivoli, along with Dr. Calvin Uzelmeier of the RMSC, were coordinators for the event. Twenty-five finalists of 81 total participants from schools throughout the Rochester area were selected to attend the statewide recognition ceremony in Schenectady on June 9.

The following students were selected from Terry A. Taylor School to go on to the finals in June: Anne Marie Giuliano, Joshua Griffin, Matthew Miller, Abigail Snider, Cole Tresohlavy and Jared White.
