C-C team gives back to community

Churchville-Chili High School FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Teams 340 and 424 thanked the community for donations to the team bottle and can drive. The funds raised will help purchase supplies for a Lego League team at the CC intermediate and junior high school levels where the Robotic Team members mentor younger students.

The FIRST Robotics Teams at Churchville-Chili, sponsored by Bausch and Lomb, is responsible for building, programming and engineering a 140-pound robot for a regional competition and has gone on to every national competition over the past eight years. The team has won the prestigious Chairman's Award, twice, the highest award in FIRST Robotics, for their community service projects, sharing the mission and vision of FIRST Robotics with younger students and displaying gracious professionalism on and off the field.

This past season Churchville-Chili Team 340 won the Engineering Inspiration Award for inspiring new teams by working with their sponsor to share funding so B&L could also sponsor three teams at Rochester City Schools and a second team at Churchville-Chili.

The team is working on a video for FIRST and has formed a steering committee to raise funds to build a house in the city of Rochester with Habitat for Humanity and FIRST teams in the area. "Our motto is, if we can engineer a robot, we can build a house," said Senior Katherine Jackson, a member of the Habitat FIRST house steering committee.

Ross Temple keeps track of the bags for delivery to the recycling center during the bottle and can drive for the Churchville-Chili First Robotics Teams.
