Restored Engine 55 unveiled

Dave and Mary Lou Rockow(shown right) unveil plaques which recognize the many who helped with the project.

George Dorgan (middle photo) sits at the wheel of Bertha. The fire truck served the community for 28 years before being retired, after which it was used for training and parade uses. The $60,000 renovation involved tearing the whole vehicle down to the frame and repairing and refurbishing every part. The Engine 55 Club raised $30,000 in a two-year fundraising drive; other money was raised more recently and included a grant from New York state. Engine 55 joined in the parade which was a part of Hamlin Wheel Fest June 2. Later the public was invited to use the Engine 55's hoses to pump water.

State Senator George Maziarz, who helped secure some funding for the project, helped with the unveiling and rode the truck in the parade route (passenger side).
