Relay for Life held in Spencerport June 1

Gena McMahon and Donna Austin (shown at right) put candles in white paper sacks which will serve as luminaries lining the track at the American Cancer Society's Westside 8th Annual Relay for Life event held at the Spencerport High School soccer field on June 1. Over 1,000 luminaries were created and lit during the overnight event. Luminaries line the inside ridge of the track, providing a guiding light to runners and walkers in the Relay for Life after dark.

Some of the groups (shown below) lining the inside of the track, applauding and cheering the cancer survivors. Sixty-two teams had registered for the event and over 758 walkers were involved, with over $36,000 raised early on. Co-chair Dan Milgate announced that so far over $385,000 had been raised for cancer research in the eight years of this program in Spencerport.
