Scholarships granted to local students

The Margaret A. McGrath Charitable Foundation awarded 17 scholarships totaling $50,000 to local students for the 2007-2008 academic school year. The foundation offers two types of scholarships to residents of the Towns of Sweden and Hamlin. The Philip and Margaret Dollard Business Scholarship is for those majoring in business and the Marie Dollard McGrath Elementary Education Scholarship is awarded to those majoring in elementary education.

This year's recipients of the Philip and Margaret Dollard Business Scholarship are: Gregory Strabel, $6,000; Jeffrey A. Bush $5,000; Margaret Brightly, $2,000; James Grafe, Jr., $2,000 and Bradley Schaefer, $2,000.

The recipients of the Marie Dollard McGrath Elementary Education Scholarship are: Kelsey Sullivan, $2,000; Christine Walker, $2,000; Christyna Cain - $4,000; Nicole Poupore, $2,000; Amber Hartman, $2,000; Randall Yu, $2,000; Mindy Bader, $4,000; Nadine Beres, $4,000; Jennifer Trenton, $4,000; Brittany Solt, $2,000; Kaitlin Sanford, $3,000 and Brittany Thompson, $2,000.

Margaret A. McGrath established the foundation in 2004 under her will to provide scholarships to residents of the Towns of Sweden and Hamlin who have chosen to pursue a degree in either business or elementary education. The foundation has awarded $105,000 in scholarships since its formation.

Qualifying 2008 graduating high school seniors and current college students should submit applications for the 2008-2009 academic year by March 1, 2008. For information, contact Richard J.
