B-B's New Millennium Project voted down
No alternative plan yet

Voters in the Byron-Bergen Central School District voted down a $29.5 million "New Millennium Capital Project," at the polls June 6. Results from the district office show the borrowing proposal lost by a vote of 658 to 543. A second bonding proposal for $1.6 million in site improvements was also rejected by a vote of 690 to 443.

Byron-Bergen Superintendent Dr. Gregory Geer said the district faces many challenges as the Board of Education works over the next couple of weeks to decide what direction to proceed in. "The project is a complex one and not easy to pick apart," Geer said.

Even though the results didn't quite turn out the way district officials had hoped, Geer said he was "very pleased" with the voter turn out. Geer said 1,201 people voted, which was an all-time record for the district.

Geer called the proposed project ambitious and visionary. "I contended from the beginning that it would test the limits of the district," he said. Geer added that he feels the vote was relatively close and that is an affirmation that the district is moving in the "right direction."
