Riga honors C-C FIRST Robotics Team

Riga Town Supervisor Pamela Moore presented certificates to honor the members of the Churchville-Chili FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Team 340. Moore recognized the team for earning the Engineering Inspiration Award at the FIRST Robotics Regional competition.

This year, Team 340 students and Team Advisor Jason Rees, with sponsor Ron Borden of Bausch and Lomb, formed a second team at CCSHS to afford more students the opportunity for hands-on engineering. This earned Team 340 the Engineering Inspiration Award from FIRST. "Rookie team 424 scores amazingly well at the regional competition and they were even selected for an alliance in the final match with a top seeded team," said Rees. "They learned a lot this season about programming, engineering, community service, and being part of FIRST Robotics."

FIRST Robotics was founded by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway, to inspire students in Math, Science and Technology. "Churchville-Chili is unique because we have two teams at our school, which surpasses Dean Kamen's original vision of a team at every high school," said Rees. "To be honored by our Town Supervisor, Pamela Moore, for the accomplishments of our students is great recognition for our team."
