Receives Distinguished Public Service award

On June 14, James Cunningham, a 1991 graduate of Spencerport Central Schools, received the Naples Chamber of Commerce 2007 Distinguished Public Service Award. This award recognizes those unsung heroes for going above and beyond the call of duty. Cunningham moved to Naples, Florida 14 years ago with his wife, Theresa. They have three children, Bradley, Nicholas and Tessa. During his 10 years as a firefighter and paramedic at the North Naples, Florida, Fire Department, Captain Cuninngham has performed many heroic and life-saving acts. His tireless dedication to the community and his ambitious efforts to serve its citizens are applauded, according to information received from his mother, Nancy Lyon of Walworth, N.Y. Most notable is Captain Cunningham's ability to single-handedly spearhead the resurgence of the District's Advance Life Support (ALS) engine program, coordinating participation among all county departments, which provided emergency medical services to more than 6,800 people during 2006. When living in Spencerport, Cunningham was a member of the fire explorers.
