ArtWalk Audio Guide presents Community Art in Brockport

The Brockport ArtWalk audio guide, a tool to guide visitors to Brockport in viewing public art and historically significant sites in the Village of Brockport and on the SUNY campus, is completed and available to the public. The walking tour begins from the Village Welcome Center on Water Street, where "Howdee," a sculpture by artist Bill Stewart greets canalside visitors.

"Production of the 40-minute self-guided audio tour was a SUNY Brockport tour de force," said co-writer/producer Virginia Bacheler, associate dean of the college's School of Arts and Performance. Other SUNY College at Brockport members included: Audrey Payne, Alex Matiash, Davida Bloom, Bill Hullfish and Clyde Morgan.

The project came about as the result of a request from the Art and Aesthetics Committee of the Walk! Bike! Brockport Action Group, which was seeking a way to encourage visitors to take a walking tour of the village's community sculpture and historic sites.

Lori Skoog, chair of the Arts and Aesthetics Committee said, "The ArtWalk audio guide is the perfect vehicle to promote good health and aesthetic pleasures. The music will energize your gait as you take in the high spots of our village. We are very fortunate to have such a strong relationship with Ginnie (Bacheler) and SUNY Brockport, as she has produced an extremely professional piece that will impress visitors from all over the country." The tour is available on CD and in mp3 format and can be downloaded at http://www.brockport.edu/artwalk/. Compact Disk players are available to borrow from Brockport's Welcome Center, Water Street; the Drake Memorial Library on the SUNY Brockport campus; and the Seymour Library, East Avenue, Brockport.
