Having a ball

Casey MacClaren, age 12, of Holley, donated 500 playground balls to the Catholic Family Center in Rochester. The balls are given to children living in safe houses, homeless shelters, men's shelters and are also utilized by parent educators in various programs. To date, he donated nearly 1,300 balls. Donations to help his project have come from the Brockport Lions Club, the Hamlin Lions Club, Hedstrom toy company, the Rochester Redwings, the Batavia Muckdogs, Cool Kids, McQuaid Jesuit students, Genesee Valley Table Tennis, World Life Institute, Wendy Annal's girl scout troop and individuals. He designed the program Have-A-Ball two years ago as a community service project. He is a first honors student at McQuaid Jesuit High School.
