Hamlin town meeting to discuss sex offender status

In response to the notification of a registered, Level 3 sex offender residing in the Lake Breeze subdivision, the Town of Hamlin will host a meeting, open to all Hamlin residents, at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 1107 Lake Road West Fork, Hamlin.

The purpose of the meeting is to promote community awareness of the situation and understanding of the New York Sex Offender Registry and to reinforce good safety practices for parents and children. A panel of legislators, law enforcement officers and educators will discuss the issue. Special education sessions will be conducted for children concurrent with panel discussion.

Invited guests include New York State Senator George Maziarz, who was instrumental in enacting "Megan's Law;" State Assemblyman Steve Hawley; Pam Weaver, director of Community Education for the Rochester Branch of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; Gary Rose, director of security, Brockport Central School District; and, Investigator Patricia Keyes and Deputy Charlie Campanella of the Monroe County Sheriff's office.
