Holley jumpers raise money for American Heart Association

The Jump Rope for Heart has become a tradition at Holley Elementary School. In its 22nd year, the event has raised more than $200,000 for the American Heart Association's research and programs. This year, 82 jumpers raised $4,664 by gathering pledges, then jumping rope in teams. Twenty-eight parent and 23 staff volunteers helped out during the event and provided beverages and snacks to the jumpers.

The six students who earned the most pledges were: Kendra Quill ($401), Jared Scherer ($215), Emily Radford ($180), Jocelyn Cerrone ($161), Emily Tabor ($140) and Bryanna Antram ($135). Students who raised over $125 were entered by the American Heart Association into a drawing for a trip to Disney World. The top class was John Trupo's first grade class, which raised $453 and will receive a free physical education class with their choice of games.

Physical education teacher Lisa Campbell has coordinated the event every year and says that it not only involves the whole school in a worthwhile cause, but gives teachers the opportunity to educate students about the importance of community service, and the necessity of physical fitness and nutrition.
