Civil War encampment planned at Hamlin Beach

The quiet and serene park of Hamlin Beach State Park will be disrupted with cannons, musket fire and the sounds of the Civil War for the weekend of August 18 and 19 as the War Between the States is re-enacted.

Cannon fire will sound the kick off to the two day event as it urges soldiers and civilians to get prepared for the days ahead.

Visitors can meet with re-enactors who portray the men and women of both the North and the South from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and learn about the daily lives from what they wore, ate, lived in and even how they fought. There will be an afternoon social on Saturday, Sunday Morning church, and a battle (both days) in the afternoon, culmination of the day filled with history. Besides touring military and civilian camps there will be different sutlers (huts and tents with various items for sale) for visiting and shopping.

On Saturday night, there will be period music and dancing at 7 p.m. There will be cannon fire at night, weather permitting.
