Parma honors police department volunteers

The Town of Parma Special Police Department awarded eight volunteers with the President's Volunteer Service Award, a national honor offered in recognition of volunteer service. Recipients of the President's Volunteer Service Award are: Retired Chief Frank Hutchinson in over 30 years of service, Chief Tod Edenhofer, Lieutenant Scott Frearson, Officer Mike Silvestro, Officer Kathleen Edenhofer, Officer Randy Mousaw, Officer Joe Silvestro and Officer Dan Kohler.

Established in 2003, the award is available to individuals who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering.

The town's Special Police have a long history of volunteer service. The department routinely implements community and public safety at various events within the town throughout the year. Its members are also trained to provide Court Safety.

The Parma Special Police was organized in 1962 as a volunteer organization and is funded by the Town of Parma to assist the public and authorities during community events, natural disasters and emergencies.
