Participating in government

Patrick Spring, of Hilton High School, attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., based on the nomination by one of his teachers, Amy Ward. He spent ten days in Washington with other scholars from across the United States. He sat in the House of Representatives, met with members of the Washington Press Corps at the National Press Club, and met senators and representatives. He also participated in a number of leadership skill-building activities and simulations, and in "testing the Constitution," in which he examined actual Supreme Court cases. The Conference included Model Congress where he had an opportunity to assume the role of US Representatives, and debate, amend and vote on proposed mock legislation.
