Hamlin schedules two-part meeting
Wind towers, community center on agenda

The Town of Hamlin will conduct a two-part special board meeting, Monday, July 30, that will encompass plans for a community center and following that, presentations and findings from the Wind Tower Committee.

The first part of the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to all interested in the community center. Residents are invited to offer their opinions on what they would like to see in a center. Town officials have invited the Hamlin Seniors, the Public Library, the Town of Hamlin Recreation Department and the Hamlin Community Center Exploratory Committee.

The purpose of the meeting, Supervisor Dennis Roach wrote in a press release, is for the town board to ensure all joint requirements and desires are known before referring the issue to an architect for a design concept and estimated costs.

The second part of the meeting, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall gymnasium, will consist of the Wind Tower Committee's presentation of findings and recommendations to the town board.

"Concerned that pending state legislation pertaining to power plant siting would preempt local control, the town board, at its July 9 meeting, asked the committee to complete its research and deliberation and present its findings at the July 30 meeting," Roach stated in the press release.

The original target date for completion and presentation of information from the committee was December 2007. The meeting will not be a public hearing and questions will be limited to the town board officials.

Public hearings will be conducted before any local legislation is enacted.
