STAR rebate applications being mailed

The Middle Class STAR Rebate program is underway. The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF) will be mailing all 2007 Basic STAR exemption recipients a packet of rebate materials around August 20. Once the packet is received, respond to the DTF by mail or online www.nystax.gov and submit the information requested. This is a one-time application as future Middle Class STAR rebates will automatically be checked by DTF.

Recipients of the 2007 Enhanced (Senior) STAR exemption will not need to apply specifically for the rebate.

The application information includes verification of the property information; names and social security numbers for all resident owners and their spouses; verification of the mailing address and submitting the application either online or by mail.

The DTF will send out the rebate checks on a rolling basis based on the date applications are received. The quickest way to receive a rebate check will be to apply online. The application deadline is November 30, 2007. The anticipated rebate amounts are determined based on a combination of factors including the income bracket for your property, the tax rate for the school district where the property is located and the city/village/town where the property is located. Rebate amounts will vary.
