Spencerport celebrates summer with Canal Splash events

Canal Splash ’07 is Sunday, August 12. Lisa VerSteeg and Maria Parina and many volunteers have planned a summer day of family fun for the Spencerport-Ogden Community.

New this year is the 5K Run which starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Clyde Carter Gazebo. Participants will head north across the canal bridge then west at towpath, on to the Trimmer Road bridge and then return to Spencerport. Interested participants can go online to www.spencerportchamber.org for an entry form or call Meg LeBeau to register.

Canal Town Paddle Sports owners Dave and Sherrie Connors will provide a special half hour rate for those who want to view the canal from the water in either kayaks or canoes.

Back by popular demand activities scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. will be children’s games and craft activity tent, bicycle rodeo, “adrenaline rush” obstacle course, watermelon eating contest, pie baking contest, historic walking tours of the village, story time at the Depot and a scavenger hunt.

Entertainment at the Clyde Carter Memorial Gazebo from 1 to 8:30 p.m. will be provided by Collichio School of Music, Project 2 Trio, Expressions of Dance and LaDance’s Irish Dancers.

Abbott’s and Barton’s will be on hand once again with refreshments available for purchase and the Spencerport Booster Club will also have a variety of treats for sale.

Topping off the day will be a family barbecue from 4 to 6:30 p.m. prepared by “A Taste of Texas” restaurant at Firemen’s Field Food Booth and an evening concert with Boone’s Farm Band from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gazebo.
