Repairs will close village parking lot
SPENCERPORT - Repairs to a Spencerport village parking lot damaged by a movie crew in December will begin on August 26. The repairs to the municipal parking lot at West Avenue and Church Street will be a two phase project and will cause intermittent closure of the lot for about three days, Village of Spencerport's Deputy Mayor Ted Rauber said. more

Business and homeowners likely don't want to pick up the phone and call 9-1-1 when there is an issue with a skateboarding youth or if there is a group of youths loitering. Now, they don't have to, they can call the Village of Spencerport offices at 352-4771 and ask for the services of Ken Olson who was hired to act as a security guard in the canal park area. more

Town official's husband resigns as deputy supervisor
RIGA - The Town of Riga has a new deputy supervisor after Gil Budd offered his letter of resignation at the August 14 town board meeting. Town Supervisor Pamela Moore appointed Mark Majewski to the post effective immediately. more

Trail talks raise issues, concerns and benefits
The public had its first opportunity to have a say about potential development of the former New York Central Westshore Railroad alignment during a meeting August 14. About 30 people attended the public information session held at the Gillam-Grant Community Center in Bergen. Many of those in attendance own property adjacent to the alignment which is being considered for development as a multi-use recreational trail. more

The Hilton Apple Fest, scheduled for September 29 and 30, has chosen the theme for the 2007 Photo Contest as "Effects of Weather." The parameters are photos, shot anytime, that depict the effects of weather on people, property and activities that happen in western New York during any of the four seasons. more

Increased police bike patrols in Hilton
In an effort to expand upon a successful program piloted last year, the Town of Parma Special Police Department will increase the frequency and number of bicycle based patrols within the Village of Hilton. more

Refuge accepting reserved hunt cards for waterfowl season
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is accepting cards for the Refuge's reserved waterfowl hunt days. Reservations are required for opening day, Tuesday, October 23, and the first two Saturdays, October 27 and November 3, of the New York State regular waterfowl season: these dates are tentative pending approval of the recommended waterfowl hunting season. more

Truck stolen from Brockport was recovered
On August 7 during the early morning hours, a railroad maintenance truck was stolen from the Falls Road Railroad Maintenance-of-Way Department, adjacent the railroad tracks in Brockport. The truck is of the type that can be used on roadways, off-road, and on rails using a special hydraulic mechanism located at the front and back of the truck. more

Fall classes planned at the Sweden Senior Center, 133 State Street, Brockport include:

Adult Piano Lessons-Beginning and Intermediate on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon (in half hour sessions) from September 11 through December 4 (no class October 30). Fee: $120 (12 weeks) more

The 3rd annual Hilton Select Basketball 3-on-3 Tournament was held August 4 weekend at Parma Town Park basketball courts. This year there were 20 teams competing from all over Monroe County. more

Young waterfowlers training program scheduled
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), in partnership with the Lake Plains Waterfowl Association (LPWA), will host its 34th Annual Young Waterfowlers Training Program. The program includes a full day of waterfowl hunting information and orientation on Saturday, October 13 to improve the skills of young waterfowlers before the refuge youth-only hunt day scheduled for Sunday, October 28. The program will be held at the Refuge headquarters, 1101 Casey Road, and is open free of charge to junior hunters between 12-17 years of age. more
