Tax rate lower in three C-C district towns

According to Churchville-Chili Central School District representatives, the administration, under the direction of the Board of Education, was able to provide a lower than expected tax rate to the community.

The budget, put to voters in May, estimated a tax rate increase of 0 percent in Chili, Ogden, Sweden, and Riga assuming equalization rates of 100 percent for each town. Though rates below 100 percent usually results in a higher tax rate increase, and the state set equalization rates below 100 percent for the towns of Riga (99 percent) and Ogden (96 percent), the district was able to use additional state aid and increases in assessments to actually decrease the tax rate in Chili and Sweden by 3.99 percent, and in Riga by 3.02 percent. The Town of Ogden had a 0 percent change.
