Dunne named interim coach

Eight-year assistant coach Greg Dunne has been named to replace Nelson Whitmore as the head coach of the SUNY Brockport Men's Basketball team. Whitmore resigned last Monday to become the new head coach at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Dunne has been the lead assistant coach for the SUNY Brockport program for the past eight seasons and has helped the Golden Eagles advance to the NCAA Tournament five times in the last eight seasons including a trip to the Elite Eight of the tournament last year.

"We are very happy that Greg has agreed to take over the head coaching position with the resignation of Nelson so close to the start of the school year," said SUNY Brockport Director of Athletics Lin Case in a press release. "I am confident the men's basketball program will not skip a beat with Greg taking over the reins. The current players will be comfortable with his coaching style and the program should continue its growth in the coming year."

Dunne, a former standout at Nazareth College, will act as the head basketball coach for the Golden Eagles until a national search for a permanent replacement is conducted in the spring.

"I am excited for the opportunity to be the head coach of a program with the reputation for success that SUNY Brockport has," said Dunne on his appointment in the same press release. "After working with Nelson over the past eight seasons, I don't expect any huge changes in the up-tempo style of play that the Golden Eagles fans have come to expect."
