National Night Out planned in Brockport

Free hot dogs, crash simulations, face painting and a chance to mingle with police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel will be the draws of the night when National Night Out 2007 comes back to Brockport.

National Night Out is a program that runs across the country and offers community members a chance to meet and mingle with fire and police professionals. Brockport's event will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 14 at the Brockport Vets Club, 210 West Avenue. "It's a chance to see me cook hot dogs," Police Chief Dan Varrenti joked as he talked about the event at the August 27 Brockport Village Board meeting.

The night features a Brockport Police Awards ceremony, a real-time DWI crash simulation complete with a helicopter, fire safety trailer, US Border Patrol information, police safety demonstrations, Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog will be on hand. There will also be a Zuperbounce Obstacle Course.

"It's a great way to come out and have a free, family, fun-filled event," Varrenti said.
