Shafer, David W., of Gerry, 77, formerly of North Chili, died August 26, 2007. Husband of Grace Saxton Shafer; father of David J. (Tita), Peter W. (Shirley), Nathaniel L. and Jeremy (Kimberly) Shafer; grandfather of eight; brother of Carl D. (Bette) Shafer and Joy (Robert) Smith.

Funeral Services were held August 30 at Gerry Free Methodist Church, Gerry, New York. Contributions can be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, Florida 32862 in his memory.


BROCKPORT

Barber, Joann R., On August 26, 2007. She is survived by her children, Mark, Lisa (Thomas) Landicho; two grandchildren, Carmen and Gregory Landicho; brother-in-law, Peter (Betty) Barber; sister-in-law, Josephine Janus; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held August 29 at the Fowler Funeral Home, Inc., Brockport. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the American Lung Association or American Diabetes Association in her memory.


Gionta, Frank, August 25, 2007 at age 89. Predeceased by his father and mother, Salvatore and Mary Gionta; sister, Dorothy Gionta Federico. He is survived by his wife Kay (Proietti) Gionta; brothers and sister, Sylvester (Antoinette) Gionta, Sam (Niki) Gionta, Rose Marie Trotta, Vincent (Sandra) Gionta; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anthony Federico, Mary Betette, Betty and John Joyce, Dolores and Sam DiNorma, Frances Powell; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gionta was treasurer of St. Lucy's 11th Ward Originals and a retiree of Rochester Products.

A Funeral Mass was said August 29 at St. Helen's Church, Gates. Entombment, Whitehaven Memorial Park. Contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester 14620 in his memory.


CHURCHVILLE

Betteridge, Gerald F., age 79, of Little River, South Carolina, formerly of Churchville, died August 8, 2007 at Loris Community Hospital. Born on July 9, 1928 in Churchville, he was the son of the late Edwin and Sarah Cody Betteridge. Gerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Dilcher Betteridge of Little River; one son, Chris E. Betteridge of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Richard (Doris) Betteridge of Churchville and Ronald (Janet) Betteridge of Greece; and three grandchildren, Gerald L. (Stacey) Betteridge, Lindsay Betteridge and Logan Betteridge. Gerry was an outstanding athlete. While living in Churchville, he spent several years playing semi-pro baseball. He was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in Rochester in 1985 for his outstanding achievements.

A Memorial Service was held August 15, 2007 at Lee Funeral Chapel, Little River, South Carolina. Contributions can be made to Riga Cemetery, Churchville, NY in his memory.


CLARKSON

Hoy, Bruce E., Died August 19, 2007, after a gallant struggle to regain his health. Survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Fowler); devoted children, Kevin and Cynthia Marlowe; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; five siblings, extended family and many friends.

Funeral Mass and interment will be held in Brockport on dates to be announced in October.


HILTON

Aylward, Gayle A., died August 28, 2007 after a heroic battle with ovarian cancer. She is predeceased by her mother Ellen (Vinje) and father William Ponticell; her mother and father-in-law Trudy and John Aylward, brother-in-law, Drew Eubanks. Survived by her soulmate and loving husband of 35 years, Peter Aylward; children Brian (Cathy) and Jonathan (Kelly); granddaughter Rebecca; her sister Jane Eubanks; niece Kristen Eubanks; nephew Jay (Olivia) Eubanks, their son Adlai; brother-in-law Philip (Kathleen) Aylward and their children David, Andrew and John-Michael; sister-in-law Suzanne Aylward. She worked at Rochester General Hospital and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics for over 15 years as a quality assurance engineer and group supervisor.

A Memorial Mass was said August 31 at St. Mark's Church, Kuhn Road. Private inurnment. Contributions can be made to the Webster Comfort Care Home, 700 Holt Road, Webster 14580 or the U of R Women's Cancer Fund, 125 Lattimore Road, Rochester 14620 in her memory.


SPENCERPORT

Currie, Dorothy June, died August 13, 2007 in Largo, Florida after a long illness. She was born in Rochester, June 1, 1925, resided in Spencerport from 1957 to 1978. She retired from General Motors after 32 years of service and enjoyed many years in Largo. She was active in the Etolian Chapter 308 OES, Spencerport, serving as Matron in 1966 and Grand Chaplain of New York State in 1970. Survived by long time friend of 62 years, Marion Heise of Largo, Florida; brother Howard (Gloria) Clarke of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held September 6 at 10 a.m., Fairfield Cemetery, Spencerport.


Malouf, Louis, August 24, 2007. Survived by his lov-ing wife of 42 years, Dolores; daughter, LuAnne; son, Scott (Jennifer); brother, Naheim (Charlotte); sister, Matilda Hecox; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Molly (Dr. Charles) Maggio; uncle, Rocky Palermo; and sev-eral nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Louis was a retiree of Eastman Kodak and a US Army Veteran.

Funeral Services were held August 27 at St. Nicholas Church, Gates. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to Hospice of Rochester in his memory or Masses in his name at St. Jude or St. Nicholas Church.


Sherman, Ernest E., August 22, 2007 at age 63. Beloved son of Beatrice and the late Walter Sherman Sr. Beloved brother of devoted caregiver Katherine Sherman Sulimowicz and Delia (Gene) Robinson, Walter (Joan) Sherman Jr., Suzanne (George) Lloyd, Iva Davenport, Agnes Cooley, Ruth (Bill) Westcott, Beatrice (Jim) Radford Mitchell and John Sherman; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held August 27 at Walker Brothers Co. Funeral Home Inc., Spencerport. Interment, Garland Cemetery. Contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice in his memory.
