Churchville-Chili Leo Club starts second decade of service

The Churchville-Chili Leo Club, a community service group, begins its 11th year of service activities. The Leo Club is sponsored by the Churchville Lions Club and is comprised of junior and senior high students at Churchville-Chili School District. Club members have logged thousands of hours of community service activity time over the past 10 years.

The service activities undertaken by the club include monthly meal preparation at the Ronald McDonald House, visits to Matthews Closet, a clothing outreach as well as monthly interaction with students at the Batavia School for the Blind. Club members also do reading and mentoring programs at Churchville Intermediate and Chestnut Ridge Elementary Schools.

Members have also performed service activities at the School of the Holy Childhood, Springdale Farm, Strong Children's Hospital, Lollypop Farm and LPGA golf tournament. Riga Recreation activities include WinterFest and spring Easter Egg Hunt. The Leos also join the Churchville Lions for an annual charity basketball game, and help at the Country Fair, music festival and chicken BBQs. The school year concludes with participation at the Westside Cancer Relay For Life.

Club officers for 2007-2008 school year are President Jamie Giovannini; Vice-President, Caitlin DeGrave; Secretary, Amanda Howard and Treasurer, Jen Fox. Club Advisors are Mary Rugg, English teacher at C-C Junior High and Churchville Lion Martin Molinari, Monroe County 2007 Youth Advocate of the Year Award winner.

New members are always welcome. Meetings are Mondays at 2:05 p.m. in senior high library.
