BFD hosts 12-hour vigil

The sixth annual 12-hour vigil is scheduled at Brockport Fire Department Firefighters Memorial Monument, Station #4, 237 South Main Street on Tuesday September 11.

The opening ceremony will be at 8 a.m. with reflections and prayer from Fire Department Chaplains and the lowering of the flags to half staff in accordance with Presidential Decree. There will be a uniformed Honor Guard following completion of opening ceremony until commencement of closing ceremony. The vigil includes the ringing of the Memorial Bell at 8:47 a.m. Bell will toll 5-5-5-5 (FDNY's ring code for Line of Duty Death), a mid-day ceremony at noon when the "Star Spangled Banner" will be played. Co-Hosts and Masters of Ceremonies are Tony and Dee of WARM 101.3. There will be reflections and prayer.

The closing ceremony is 7 p.m. and a dedication of bronze sculptures that will stand in Memorial for generations to come. The Gates Police Pipes and Drums will perform and there will be raising of the American Flag after sun-down.
