Raiders fall in five

Roberts Wesleyan led two games to one, but dropped the final two in a 3-2 loss in women's volleyball to Oswego at the Voller Athletic Center.

Roberts used its superior height to jump out to an 11-5 lead and never looked back in a 30-17 first game rout. In game two, the Lakers never trailed and Roberts gave them eight points on service errors in a 30-21 win to even the match.

The Raiders were down by as many as six points in game three before turning around their offense. With captain Alyse O'Brien serving three aces and adding one kill, Roberts went on a 16-3 run and an eventual 30-23 victory.

Oswego again never trailed in taking the fourth game 30-26 to even the match leading to the deciding fifth game. Roberts led 7-3 and 10-8 led by two kills from Julie Kilcoyne and two blocks and a kill by Brandi Naish, but could not hang on as the Lakers took a 15-13 game and the match.

Naish led the Raiders attack with 18 kills and six blocks with freshman Stacey Tiffin registering nine kills and four blocks. Jackie Steubing (Brockport) chipped in with eight kills and freshman Shavaughn Bartz (Byron-Bergen) handed out 43 assists from her setter position.
Roberts fell to 2-6 on the season and were off on an 11-match road trip before returning home September 25 against Alfred.
