Lions 'Peace Poster' contest underway

The Lions Club of Chili is sponsoring the 2007-2008 Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Children ages 11 through 13 by November 15, attending the two participating schools in this community, Gates-Chili Middle and St. Pius X RC schools can submit one original poster designed according to the contest rules.

The theme for this year is "Peace Around the World.

In November, the club will collect the entries and select a winner for each school that will receive a Certificate of Achievement and a $100 US Savings Bond.

The two winning posters will be forwarded to the Governor of Lions District 20-E1, and will compete with other winners of this area. There will be District Awards and recognition for the winner at this level. The District winner will compete at state level, and the winner will be entered into the International contest.

The International winner will receive a grand prize of $2,500 and an engraved plaque, and will be invited, with two family members and the sponsoring club president, to attend the award ceremony at Lions Day at the United Nations, in New York City, in March 2008.

Twenty-three merit winners will receive $500 each and a certificate of achievement. The winning entries will be on display at the UN, and then at Lions International functions and published in subsequent issues of "The Lion" international magazine.
