Holley Elementary Principal William Ottman presents fourth grader Angela Pinson with a Soaring to New Heights Award.

Holley fourth grader recognized for helping
family in need

Holley fourth-grader Angela Pinson was recognized at the September 10 Board of Education meeting with a Soaring to New Heights Award for helping a family who lost its home and belongings in a fire. When she heard that the family was unable to replace the children's toys, she decided to organize a bottle drive to help buy the children some essentials, along with their own teddy bears. She made flyers and distributed them throughout her neighborhood, then collected the bottles and cans, sorted and bagged them. Her efforts were a success as she raised $340, which she gave to the family to put toward getting re-established. "We are extremely proud of Angela and the initiative she took in helping other children in need," said Principal William Ottman, who presented her with the award. "Through her actions, Angela has demonstrated the positive character traits we teach at Holley Elementary School. She is a role model for other students to follow."
