Golden Eagles now 4-0

Brockport made a first-half goal from leading scorer Jill Neidlinger stand out as they defeated Nazareth for the first time in three seasons 1-0. Since that game, the Golden Eagles added a 5-0 victory over Hilbert College and had yet to allow a goal against over the first four games.

"The seniors talked before the game that they had never beaten Nazareth and that today was the day," said head coach Joan Schockow. "This is the first time we decided to play them straight up with no wrinkles."

In the 21st minute, sophomore midfielder Michelle Gibaud fed a cross to Neidlinger for the only offense in the game. Brockport's defense tightened up after an early first half assault by Nazareth and didn't allow many more legitimate scoring chances. Steph Kowell made seven saves and registered her fourth consecutive shutout in the win. She shared the Hilbert shutout with Liz Durfee.

"We had a fantastic team last year and lost some key people," said Schockow after the game. "But other players are stepping up and doing some good things. They are good and they are confident, but not overconfident and lazy."

The Golden Eagles host St. John Fisher Monday before a key road series at Potsdam and Plattsburgh and a home showdown with Oneonta September 29.
