C-C Saints sweep in volleyball

Churchville-Chili overcame a six point deficit in the first game and then never trailed as they swept Brockport 26-24, 25-16, 25-18 in boys volleyball.

The Blue Devils used a pair of kills by Ryan Blondell in a 6-0 streak to take a 16-10 lead in the first game, but the Saints used kills by Kevin Hebert, Greg Schworm and Ryan Steubing to tie the game 20-20. Brockport tied the game at 24-24 on consecutive kills and again by Blondell before C-C won the game on kills by Joe Cimono and Alex Wezelis.

The Saints used an 11-3 run to run away to a 25-16 win in the second game and jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third game with Dan Gittens putting the game out of reach with a pair of aces late to complete the sweep.

Blondell led Brockport with 13 kills total and added 24 digs. Tim Habben chipped in with 24 digs, Andrew Hueser had 20 assists and Doug Neva four blocks.

The Saints received 19 digs on defense from Steubing, nine kills from Wezelis and seven kills from Steve Conlon, with six of those coming in the third game.
