Spencerport residents urged to practice E.D.I.T.H. drills

The Spencerport Fire Department will once again sponsor a community-wide Exit Drill in the Home during Fire Prevention Week. This life-saving exercise, commonly referred to as "E.D.I.T.H.," will be conducted in partnership with the Spencerport School District and fire departments throughout Monroe County on Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. All residents are encouraged to participate in this proven life-saving activity.

Adults, senior citizens, students and their families, are invited to practice the drill at the same time, making it a neighborhood event. Firefighters and equipment will be available in some neighborhoods to assist citizens as they practice their drills.

Important elements of the Exit Drill in The Home include: testing all of the smoke detectors, discussing a plan of evacuation including two ways out, deciding on a place to meet outside, away from the home, and physically practicing the plan.
