Roberts Wesleyan College hosting fundraising event

On Saturday, October 20, Roberts Wesleyan College will host a "Laps of Love" fundraising event in support of former student athlete, Matt St. James. Last March, he collapsed while running at the outdoor track at the college and suffered a brain injury. He spent several months at Strong Memorial Hospital and is currently at Monroe Community Hospital, where he is in a minimally conscious state. Funds raised will help alleviate the family's medical expenses.

A 5K race begins at 10 a.m. and a Laps of Love walk around the track lasts from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. There is a registration fee of $17. A chicken barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until sold out. Adults, $8 and children under 9 years old, $6.

E-mail astjames@frontiernet.net for a registration form. Forms can also be picked up at Churchville-Chili High School's main office and at Robert Wesleyan College's Voller Athletic Center and Student Services Office.

A 2003 Churchville-Chili High School graduate, St. James was a top runner on the cross country and track teams and was a social work major in his senior year. His family accepted his bachelor's degree last May on his behalf.
