4-Hers showcase Produced in New York products

BATAVIA - The Produced in New York State Food contest will be held Saturday, November 3 at Martin's Super Food Store in Batavia from 9 to 11 a.m. This event showcases Genesee County 4-Hers as they promote locally grown and New York state products.

The "Produced in New York" program helps promote locally grown and New York state products while reinforcing 4-H project materials and public presentation skills through the creation and presentation of fun, creative recipes.

Participants are required to create recipes that require a minimum of one cup of a New York state grown product like apples, carrots, dairy or meat. Barb Sturm, 4-H youth development educator at Extension, said that "this contest is open to all club members not just 4-H Family and Consumer Science youth members. For example, a fun idea for animal club members would be to create a recipe for dog or horse treats using carrots or apples."

For information contact Sturm at (585) 343-3040 ext.122 or stop by the Extension office located at 420 East Main Street, Batavia.
