St. John Evangelist School celebrates anniversary

St. John the Evangelist School in Spencerport will celebrate it 80th anniversary as a Catholic elementary school in the Archdiocese of Rochester. Celebrations are planned on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21.

Originally a converted church, the parochial school opened in 1927 with the Sisters of St. Joseph preparing classrooms for 106 students. Today the new school has 142 students in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth.

The school welcomes alumni, teachers and families during this weekend celebration of the success of the school and the children it serves.

A silent auction and dinner will be held at The Lodge on the Green Party House at 2888 Ridgeway Avenue. Tickets must be purchased in advance at St. John the Evangelist Church parish office, 352-5481. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 55 Martha Street, Spencerport. A reception will follow at the school.
