Newsmakers for the week of
October 28, 2007


David L. Branca, of Spencerport, graduated in August 2007 from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) with a master of science in Environmental and Resource Engineering.


Julie Haring of Spencerport attended the summer Creative Writing Institute at Alfred University from July 8-12. Students participated in a variety of writing-intensive exercises designed to cover topics like voice, character, metaphor, persona and narrative. Students also took reading-intensive classes and roundtables to discuss various writers and the tools they use to create their poetry and prose. Haring is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Haring of Spencerport. She is a student at Churchville-Chili High School.


Mark Dudek received the bachelor of music in performance from Berklee College of Music on May 2. He is employed as the publications and materials management coordinator for Berklee College. He is the son of Gary and Ann Dudek of Brockport and is a 2004 graduate of Brockport High School.


The following students were awarded degrees from the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University, State University of New York: Paul R. Cloutier, Spencerport, BS Mechanical Engineering and Scott J. Anson, Rochester, PHD System Science.


Air Force Airman Andrew D. Yockel graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

He is the son of Mary Yockel of Hamlin. Yockel is a 2007 graduate of Kendall Junior-Senior High School.
