St. John the Evangelist School celebrates anniversary

Families and friends gathered as St. John the Evangelist School celebrated its 80th anniversary on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21.

Originally a converted church, the Catholic elementary school opened in 1927 with 106 students. Today the school has 142 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grades. Many former students and teachers returned for the celebration.

The Town of Ogden presented the school with a certificate of congratulations, commending St. John's for "historical, educational and spiritual contributions" to the community. Visitors admired the school's halls decorated with the artwork of St. John's students as they viewed classrooms and celebrated in the gym. The school's principle Linda Boone welcomed alumni, former teachers and families. She said, "We are looking forward to our next 80 years.
