Open space preserved in Parma

Monroe County will commit $250,000 in funding from its Green Space Initiative to the Town of Parma to preserve open space.

The Monroe County Green Space Initiative was designed to help local municipalities implement their land preservation goals. The Town of Parma is developing a town-wide Farmland Preservation and Open Space Acquisition Plan and hired a consultant to identify land parcels eligible for preservation. The $250,000 from the county's Green Space Initiative will help the Town of Parma acquire these identified properties.

"The Town of Parma has taken a proactive role in preserving open space in its community and their successful efforts will serve as a model for other municipalities throughout our region and state," said County Executive Maggie Brooks.

"I understand the importance of protecting our open spaces and maintaining our town's rural character," said County Legislator Dick Yolevich. "I look forward to continuing to work with the county and town to preserve these lands for future generations."

The County Legislature will vote on the funding request once the Town of Parma has finalized its Farmland Preservation and Open Space Acquisition Plan.
