Hilton names 'Teacher of the Year'

Hilton Central Schools Teachers Association Teacher of the Year for 2007-08, Village Elementary Music Teacher Charles Palella, was named at the annual Hilton staff convocation last month. His 19th year in the district, Palella was honored for his commitment that goes beyond the school day, respect of children, a positive role model, enthusiastic, creator of a welcoming environment. "Everyone has a natural musicality even at the earliest age," he said. "It's the music that keeps me going and love of children ... All of the answers to your musical pedagogical questions are in the music, even folk music." Palella also sings opera. This year's Teacher of-the-Year semi-finalists were: Jennifer Ames, NW; Rob Berg, MW; Greg Booth, Quest; Beth Forman, VE; Colleen Grego, NW; Jennifer Howell, HS; Amy Jensen, NW; Alpa Khandhar, HS; Andrea Moore, Quest. Nominees have more than five years of exceptional service to the district, involvement in the community, and having made a substantial impact on the lives of their students and colleagues, according to teacher Kathleen Kehoe who chairs the Teacher-of-the-Year committee.
