Walter Glenn “Sonny” Rittwage
Walter Glenn “Sonny” Rittwage, 74, of Shelburne, Vermont, died peacefully on February 24, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Hospital with his loving wife by his side.
Walter was born March 4, 1935, at home in Brockport, the son of Walter and Gladys Rittwage. He attended Brockport Campus School where he met life-long friends. He graduated from Brockport High School in 1953 and excelled on the baseball, basketball and football teams. Walter enlisted in the Navy in 1954 and served four years as a quartermaster on the U.S.S. Hickox and as a signalman on the U.S.S. Diamond Head. He attended Brockport State College after being honorably discharged from the Navy.
In June 1960, he married Joanne Fegan in Clarkson, NY. This year they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Walter worked in the real estate, insurance, and financial planning sectors for many years. He also owned the Brockport Sub Shop where his specialty sandwiches were meatball subs and beef on wick recipes, still enjoyed by his family today.
He was a 32 year member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington, Vermont where he served as Trustee of Permanent Funds. Walter lived in faith as a good, humble and kind man. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He leaves his beloved wife, Joanne; daughters, Diana Labiad (Mohammed), Denise Rittwage and Jill Couture (Tom); grandchildren, Hasnaa and Sarah Labiad and Larson Couture; his sister, Theda Tufano (Harry); brothers-in-law George Fegan and Dick Fegan (Kathy); sister-in-law Tina Graf; Canadian cousin Roger Lobb and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Ronald James, his parents, sister, Nancy Lunn; and mother-in-law Velma Snyder.
Walter enjoyed working on his computer, spending time with his grandchildren, watching football, bird watching, breakfast with friends and the many vacations spent in Brockport and at the Sand Castle on Wells Beach, Maine.
The Funeral Service was held March 1 at the First Baptist Church, 81 St. Paul Street in Burlington, Vermont. Survived by their four children; Mary (Raymond) Whitelockecrawford, William Gminski, Kenneth (Robyn) Gminski, Robert (Patricia) Gminski; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her sister Sofia and survived by brother Gus (Barbara) Revelas; sisters Kay (William) Covell and Marian (Berl) Thaine. Arthur was predeceased by his brother Eugene Gminski.
They are loved and will be greatly missed.
•Waterman, Suzanne L., March 2, 2010 at the Episocpal Church Home in Rochester. She worked as a Lab Technician at the U of R Medical Center up until her retirement. She is pre-deceased by her husband Clayton. Survived by her sons, James (Janet) Waterman of Scottsville, Charles (Laurie) Waterman of Arizona; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister Jane Sweet of North Tonawanda; brother-in-law Horace True of Elkhart, Indiana and nieces and nephews.

•Dixson, Robert D. “Bob,” February 24, 2010 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shirley Dixson; children, Rebecca Peck, Robert (Vicki) Dixson, Dorothy (John) James, Joey (Gary) Wheeler, Barb (Hi) Eckard, Bonnie (Jeff) Murray and Emily (William) Boyer; his 16 grandchildren, including Brittnie and Zachary Peck, Mickayla Dixson, Janine Crump, Ross Dixson, Casey, John and Erin James; dear friends, Beverly and David Dicataldo, Art Martin and Elaine Clemmons.

•DeVelder, Diana M. “Dedee,” March 2, 2010 at the age of 62. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Frances Edwards and her granddaughter, Chelsea DeVelder. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gordon “Gordy” DeVelder; her children, Tom (Blanca Torres), Scott, Mark (Mariah), Steve DeVelder, Lisa Roi, Aimee (Josh) Portlock; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Brian, Steven and Patricia Edwards; mother-in-law, Grace DeVelder; cousin, Pat (George) Mitchell and their families.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated March 6 at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Churchville. Interment, St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the American Lung Association in her memory.

•Breslawski, Nick, March 3, 2010 at the age of 88. Predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine; brothers Charles, Sam and Fredrick and sister Mary. He is survived by his children James (Carmela), Nicholas (Ann) and Barbara (Clark) Whited; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Dan (Nancy), Tom (Carol); sisters Anne (Robert) Hermance, Estella (James) Lewis and several nieces and nephews. Hick was a Combat Vet with the 3rd Armored Division and received a Public Heart in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life-long farmer, collector of International Harvester Tractors and Equipment and he hosted the Annual Hamlin Antique Tractor Show.
A Funeral Mass was held March 6 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hamlin. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery in the spring. Contributions can be made to SEAS Church in his memory.
•Childs, Alton E., 85, died February 25, 2010 after a brief illness. He is survived by two daughters, Cherie (Ward) Gates and Christine (Ross) Thompson and one son, Daniel (Rosemary) Childs; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Fern O. (Farnham) Childs, daughter, Linda Lee Childs and sister, Aileen (Childs) McKissock. Alton served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was a retiree from Eastman Kodak Company.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 13, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3747 Brick Schoolhouse Road, Hamlin. Interment at Trinity Episcopal Church will be held at a later date. •Malone, Joseph R., February 28, 2010 at age 45. Predeceased by his parents, Richard (Joanne) Malone. He is survived by his devoted wife, Robin Malone; twin daughters, Alysse and Nicole Malone; daughter, Alexis Malone; sister, Stacy (John) Cortese; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends.

•Tomcak, James E., February 26, 2010. Survived by his loving companion, Beverly Quick; his daughter, Jamie Quick; his mother, Ida Tomcak; brother, Frank (Robin) Tomcak; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Predeceased by his father, Frank and his twin brother, Jack. He was a long time employee of Alliance Metal Stamping.
