AREA

•VanValin, Elizabeth I., age 98, at Monroe Community Hospital, died March 31, 2010. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Francis VanValin. Survived by Annette Welty of Aptos, California, Joyce (Rodney) Jones of Churchville and Dr. Robert VanValin of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Joyce Finn, Reid (Barbara) Welty, Greg (Marian) Jones, Lanette (Kevin) Lilly, Eric (Kim) Jones, Laura (Craig) Moffett, Stephen (Kara) VanValin and Julia (Will) Sanders; 22 grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church for 36 years.

Burial at Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Memorial Service will be held at Covenant Central Presbyterian Church, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Saturday, April 17 at 11 a.m. Contributions can be made to Grace Covenant Church, 224 Chestnut Ridge Road, Rochester, NY 14624 in her memory.


•Wambach, Matthew Luke, of Huntington Beach, California, age 45, died unexpectedly and peacefully on March 28, 2010. A native of Rochester, Matt was the youngest child of Gertrude O. Wambach and the late Mathew L. Wambach. He is survived by siblings Susan McCarthy, Mark (Kathy) Wambach, Mary E. Wambach, Gretchen T. Wambach, Warren (Kathy) Wambach, Anne J. Wambach and Michele Pietragrome, as well as 12 nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and friends all over the country. Matt was an alumnus of Spencerport High School, Rochester School for the Deaf, Rochester Institute of Technology and California State University. A brilliant and talented man, his passions included his family and history, disability rights, the role of religion and his beloved Babar, who died in September.

A Memorial Service is being planned in Rochester at Browncroft Community Church in early June and updates will be posted on FaceBook. Contributions can be made to Awakenings, 12322 Clearglen Avenue, Whittier, California 90604 in his memory.

•Acton, Gail A., April 1, 2010, age 64. Mother of Rodney Action Jr. of Rochester and Shelly Acton of San Antonio, Texas; grandmother of Storm Moyer of Greece; aunt of Benton Minges of Dallas, Texas; sister of the late David Minges.

BROCKPORT

•Gerew, William T. Sr., A Florida resident for 25 years, Bill died peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital on April 2, 2010, age 90. Predeceased by his parents, William Louis and Anna Regina (Derleth) Gerew; sister, Beatrice “Betty” Gerew Stoddart Mack. He is survived by his wife Joanna (Vangel) Gerew; sons, Thomas A. (Eileen “Elly”) and William T. II (Jill); former daughter-in-law, Lynn (Swanger) Gerew - mother of grandsons William T. III (Kate), Michael P. and Joseph R. (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Bella, Clara, Lyla, Lauren and Jack; sister-in-law, Olga (Vangel) Watkins; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A veteran of WWII (US 5th Army 15th Air Force), served in North Africa and Europe; charter member of Keith Miller VFW Post 6595 in Rochester and Oak Run Veterans Association of Ocala, Florida.

•Hoffman, Betty L., On April 6, 2010 at the age of 78. Predeceased by her sons Gerald and Robert. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Hobert; her son Douglas (Kelly) of North Carolina; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother James (Marilyn) Blake of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; nieces Linda Preston of Brockport, Carol (Peter) Boyd of Naples, Florida; nephew Edward (Karen) Blake of Bellbrook, Ohio and many friends. Betty was a member of the Elkettes.

Funeral Services were held April 10 at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc., Brockport. Interment in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.


•Lonthair, Ray Russell, March 31, 2010 at age 74. Survived by children Marcia (Chad) Nelson, Christina (Chris Morgan) Lonthair, Robert (Christina) Lonthair, Nicole (Jeremy) Summers, Michael Lonthair and their mother Diana (David Greening) Lonthair, 17 grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Holdsworth, Thelma Jane (John) Statt; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held April 6 at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc., Honeoye Falls.


•Welch, Peggy L., On April 5, 2010 surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her father Richard. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Frank; daughter Christine (Andrew) Megalo; grandson Matthew; mother Jeanette Walker; sister Pattie (Bob) Getty; two nieces and two nephews.

A Memorial Service was held April 9 at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc., Brockport. Private interment. Contributions can be made to The Rotary Sunshine Camp in her memory.


CHURCHVILLE

•Cowie, Brad, April 2, 2010, at age 73. He was predeceased by his parents Earl and Alice Cowie and his brothers, Bruce and Lance Cowie. He is survived by his wife Lynda Cowie; his daughter Kelly (Bill) Hammel; his grandson, Brandon Hammel; his nephew Scott (Melissa) Cowie of North Carolina; his church family from Faith Chapel of Churchville.

Graveside Services were held April 5 at Riga Cemetery, Churchville.


HAMLIN

•Hyde, Carl F., On April 3, 2010 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife Florence. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Rick) Preston of Brockport and Carl M. (Karen) Hyde of Penfield; grandchildren, Lisa, Kimberly, Mark, Jayson, Christopher, Scott, Eric, Kyle, Michael, Carla and Mark; great-grandchildren William, Jonathan, Samantha, Colton, Wyatt, Camryn, Riley, Trey, Trinity, Olivia and Patrick. Carl was a Bronze Star recipient in WWII.

•Rios, Jessie B., age 53, died April 1, 2010. Predeceased by his parents Gregorio and Maria Guadalupe Rios, sisters Jane and Marie Rios, father-in-law Bernard Yantz and sister-in-law Christine Baker. He is survived by his loving wife Ellen; daughters Sandy, Jessica (Bryan) Shear-Michaels and Tonya Rios (Colorado); granddaughter Eve Shear-Michaels; brothers Gregorio, Jr., Astolfo (Susie), Thomas Rios; sister Hilda Rios; sisters-in-law Barbara Yantz, Agnes (Charles) Switzer, Joanne Jackson, Robin (Michael) Hicks, Donna (Greg) Weckesser; brothers-in-law Bill (Gloria), Doug (Deborah) Yantz and Phil Baker; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He worked for SUNY Brockport for 22 years on the grounds crew and maintenance.

•Colilli, Sesto, March 29, 2010. Predeceased by granddaughter, Nicole Colilli. Survived by his wife, Angelica Silveri Colilli; children, Romeo (Sheila) Colilli, Sesto Colilli, Jr., Roberto (Kathy) Colilli, Gianni Colilli; grandchildren Anthony, Nicholas, Sesto III, Roberto Jr., Brianna, Francesca, Christopher, Marco, Marcella; brother, Reno (Antoinette) Colilli; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

•Barringer, Robert “Bob,” age 84, died March 31, 2010 at Lakeside Memorial Hospital. He was a truck driver for St. Joe’s Paper, in Rochester for 35 years. A U.S. Army Veteran, he was a member of the Holley VFW, American Legion Post #529 of Holley, and VFW of Brockport. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dorothy; two children, Dale (Peggy) Barringer, Gail (Rick) Ebbs both of Albion; four stepchildren, Marlene (Roy) Kenyon of Holley, John (Cindy) Pera of Morton, Robin Pera of Spencerport, Pam (Rich) Barnard of South Byron; grandchildren, Melissa, Aaron, Renee, Jasmine, Robert, Tommy, JP, Jill, Joshua, Kate, Craig, Stephanie, Bradley; great-grandchidlren, Chloe, Anthony, Maddison, Kylie; sisters, Betty Beaney of Syracuse, Rita (George) Webster of Holley, Phyllis Catlin of Colorado, Gale Woodworth of Holley, Dorothy (Vito) Quaranto; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter Cheryl Pera, a brother Donald and infant brother Dale.

A Graveside Service was held Saturday, April 10 at Sandy Creek Cemetery, with miliary honors. Contributions can be made to Hospice of Orleans in is memory.


KENDALL

•Sill, Carolyn C. (Smith), April 1, 2010. Avid softball player and bowler, member of Morton Fire Company. Predeceased by husband Roy, son, James, brothers, Sanford and John. Survived by her children, Larry (Eileen Duggan), Ronald, Greg (Valerie) Sill and Cheryl (Jeff) Unterborn; grandchildren, Karen, Lisa and Diane Sill; sister, Lee (Louis) DiPasquale and many loving relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service was held April 7 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hamlin. Donations can be made to Morton Fire Company or charity of one’s choice in her memory.


•Snyder, George E., 75, died April 3, 2010. He worked at Duffy Motts in Hamlin and at Comstock in Bergen, from which he retired in 1998. He is survived by his wife Patricia, whom he married in 1971; four sons, George, Robert and Donald (Carrie) Snyder all of Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Snyder of Kendall; stepson, Bill Howder of Brockport; three grandchildren, Joshua, Mitchell and Blake Snyder; one great-granddaughter; brother, Earl Snyder of Kent; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Snyder.

Funeral Services were held April 8 at the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, Albion. Interment, Beechwood Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Kendall Fire Department in his memory.


NORTH CHILI

•Smith, Daniel C., WWII Combat Veteran and machinist, retired from Eastman Kodak; died April 5, 2010, at age 84. Husband of Ruth Burt Smith of North Chili, father of Craig Daniel (Judy) Smith of Penfield and Laurie Ann Smith of Chili; grandfather of Leah Danielle Smith of Penfield; brother of Ralph (Carol) Smith of Florida and Joseph Smith of Rochester; and uncle to many including Melinda Martin Smith of Honeoye Falls and James Martin of Hilton.

Private Services were held. Contributions can be made to the Veterans Outreach Center, Inc. in his memory.


SPENCERPORT

•Brown, Marion M., March 28, 2010, at the age of 101. She was predeceased by her husband Franklin J. Brown and son, James “Tony” Brown. She is survived by her children, Shirley (Joe) Elloitt, Lance (Denise) Brown, Douglas (Sue) Brown and Geoffery (Pat) Brown; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service was held April 9 at Walker Brothers Co. Funeral Home, Inc., Spencerport.


•Fogarty, Patrick J. “Papa,” died April 5, 2010, at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Peter Fogarty, his brother Tom, his sisters Ella Mae and Sister Philamena and his son, William Fogarty and grandson, Billy Thrush. He is survived by his daughters, Ann (Chris) Pavlick, Mary Lou (John) Egan; grandsons, Brad (Amy) Thrush and Seann Egan; great-grandchildren, Louden and Whitney Thrush; siblings, Mike Fogarty, Mossy (Paddy) Corey; god-daughter, Katie Shelly; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, including his buddies, Buster and Dozzer.
