Parma to vote on extending town clerk's term
A mandatory referendum will be held on Election Day, November 7, for Parma residents to vote whether or not to extend the term of the town clerk from two to four years. The Parma Town Board already voted unanimously in favor of the local law after a public hearing was held on August 15.
"With a two year term, you're just getting started in the position, then you have to go out and start campaigning again," said Town Clerk Carol Kluth, who initiated the change. "A four-year term gives you time to make more progress on the job and get more done to help residents." Several surrounding towns, such as Ogden and Clarkson, have already extended the town clerk's term from two to four years. In Parma, town board members and town justices also serve for four years.
