Sweden begins Phase I of town park plan
The Town of Sweden has hired Schultz Associates Engineers to design the first group of new athletic fields to be developed at the Sweden Town Park. Sweden has allocated $190,000 in its proposed 2001 budget for park development; the cost of the engineering services for Phase I is not to exceed $30,000.
Phase I will include several soccer fields and a couple of baseball fields at the park which currently is home to Brockport Junior Baseball fields. The main road that services the baseball fields now will have to be extended to serve new fields and parking will have to be developed. Depending on the weather, some of the work may occur before the end of the year.
In other business from the October 24 town board meeting: the board nominated Michael R. Hale to the Monroe County Fishery Advisory Board.
Attorney James Bell reported that Oxford Street residents that had originally asked for a 100 percent reduction in their assessments due to a neighboring hazardous waste site were awarded less in court than the 25 percent reduction Bell said he recently offered on behalf of the town. Bell said three of the homeowners were given a 20 percent assessment reduction; a fourth resident, zero.
