MCC breaks enrollment record
A record-breaking 15,315 students have enrolled at Monroe Community College this fall, surpassing the previous record of 14,815 and reaffirming the college's position as the largest college in Greater Rochester.
College officials attribute the 3.4 percent increase to growing interest in particular academic programs, as well as the college's Dual Credit program for high school students and internet-based courses offered via the SUNY Learning Network. Academic programs that experienced significant increases include business administration, liberal arts and computer-related curricula.
A total of 13,200 students take courses at the Brighton Campus and the Applied Technologies Center, 2485 West Henrietta Road; 1,320 students take courses at Monroe Community College's downtown Damon City Campus, 228 East Main Street. Nearly 800 students take courses at both the Brighton and Damon City campuses.
The record-breaking number includes only individuals enrolled in credit-bearing programs. Thousands more are served in MCC's non-credit, workforce training programs and its many community-based programs, such as the Work and Learn Program, Liberty Partnerships program for middle and high school students, and AmeriCorps community service program.
