Tragic accident in Arizona strikes local Kleiman family
Maurice Kleiman and his wife, Liz, of Hollybrook Road, Brockport, recently returned from Kingman, Arizona, following the funeral and burial of Mr. Kleiman's son-in-law, his thirteen-year-old grandson, and his grandson's uncle. The three were killed on November 2, during a hunting trip. The Coconino County Sheriff's Department discovered all three in a tent asphyxiated by carbon monoxide from a propane lamp.
"We left Brockport in a hurry and many of our friends have only partial information about the tragedy," Kleiman said. "We want everyone to know the facts of what happened and who was involved. We also deeply appreciate the outpouring of concern from so many people."
The couple grieves with Mr. Kleiman's daughter, Bonnie S. Kleiman, who lost her husband of four years, Richard Arthur King, and her son, Louis Kleiman King. Her brother-in-law, Michael Harley King, was the third victim. Louis was born in India, in September 1987, and four months later Ms. Kleiman adopted him as a single parent. Mr. King also adopted Louis at nine years of age.
Mr. Kleiman's two sons, Warren Kleiman, of Fairport and Gerry Kleiman, from the Baltimore area, also attended the funeral.
Bonnie Kleiman attended Brockport High School in the early 1970s. She also attended SUNY College at Brockport and received an associate's degree at MCC. With a BA in social work from Arizona State University and a law degree from the University of Tulsa, she runs the Alternative Dispute Resolution programs as head of The Mediation Center related to the Mohave County Superior Court in Kingman.
Maurice and Liz Kleiman have been Brockport residents for over 30 years. Mr. Kleiman retired in 1986 as vice president for administrative services at SUNY College at Brockport after 23 years of service. He has been on the board of directors of Lifetime Assistance, Inc. for 13 years. He is a founding member and first president of Lifetime Assistance Foundation, Inc., and currently serves as its treasurer.
Mr. Kleiman and his daughter suggest that friends in this area who wish to make a memorial gift make direct contributions to Lifetime Assistance Foundation, Inc., 425 Paul Road, Rochester, NY 14624.
