Churchville-Chili music director retires
The Churchville-Chili community will be honoring Ron Cicero, the recently retired director of music and performing arts in the Churchville-Chili district. There will be a retirement party for him on January 11.
In the 34 years that Cicero worked for the district, he provided countless musical opportunities for students. For example, while director of the high school symphonic band, Cicero had his students participate in exchange concerts with other senior high school bands in the United States and Canada. His bands have performed at the Alfred University Music Festivals. In May, 1996, his symphonic band placed third in a national competition in Orlando, Florida. Under his direction, the ensemble has received prestigious 6A+ ratings (the highest grade attainable) in the New York State School Music Association Major Organization Competitions. The bands have also provided musical accompaniment to school musical productions.
Cicero's retirement party will take place Thursday, January 11 at Gatherings at the Senator's Mansion, 99 South Main Street, Churchville. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Reservations and payments will be accepted through December 22 by calling Sheryl Kruse, 293-3574 or Mark Wheaton, 293-1800, extension 5566.
A memory book is being created for Cicero. Anyone who has memories, wishes or pictures to share, can contact Bonnie Osgood, 293-1800 extension 5614 by December 15.
